About Our Program
“The purpose of arts education is not to produce more artists, though that is a byproduct. The real purpose of arts education is to create complete human beings capable of leading successful and productive lives in a free society.” – Dana Gioia

OUR DIRECTOR - AMY BROWN

Amy Shuffield Brown has been the theatre director at Heritage High School since it first opened its doors in 2014. Over the past several years, she has seen the program grow from a tiny class of freshmen to hundreds of talented students putting on theatrical productions of all varieties and bringing home awards in multiple competitions. To date, she has directed 8 musicals and over 20 plays for public presentation to Heritage audiences. Awards include Area and Region-qualifying UIL One Act Plays as well as student placements at state and national competitions including UIL Theatrical Design and International Thespian Society. She is so blessed and privileged to work with such passionate and talented students and a supportive community and administration. She loves telling beautiful and important stories with brilliant young people who love it too. When not teaching and directing theatre, she loves spending time at home with her supportive family and friends, including her two young sons, her loving husband, and her wonderful parents who are always in her corner.
